15. Environmental regulations in Montana are NOT stringent enough: Oppose* Taxes in Montana is one thing that many people are concerned about, especially since Montana has become one of the fastest growing states with property values going up substantially. My biggest fear in attempting to lower either property taxes or income taxes is that the state legislature will attempt to replace lost revenue with a sales tax. If a sales tax is introduced it must include the complete elimination of either property or income taxes. If an additional stream of revenue exists, a future legislatures could have another source that can always be increases as needed. The most important thing to being a legislator is to figure out how to provide a quality service for the amount of revenue received. Montana needs to figure out how to provide quality services for it current revenue or even less. Montana spends about 26.2% of its budget on education, and any decrease in tax revenue could cost education and other services needed funds. Any tax decrease has to be considered as an extremely important issue and not just an off handed “we need to cut taxes”. If the state can find a way to make government more efficient while still providing the needed services, reduction in tax rates should be considered, but only if needed services are not effected.
16. Montanans should not be discriminated against or treated differently because of their vaccine status: Strongly Support* I firmly believe that no person should be discriminated against based on their medical background including their vaccine status. I personally have experience discrimination as a result of my Covid vaccine status. As a nurse at Benifis in Great Falls, I worked in the Covid unit and was exposed to the virus early in the process of the pandemic. And although I continued to test my antibody levels which remained high, and requesting a religious exemption from getting the vaccine, Benefis denied my request and fired me for not being vaccinated.
