Question Response Comments/Notes
1. Public Schools in Montana are overfunded: S
2. Public Schools in Montana are underfunded: O
3. Public Schools in Montana are adequately funded: SS
4. Parental choice in education should be expanded through tax credits, education savings accounts, vouchers, and other means to allow children to attend any school of their or their parents choice: SS
5. Parents should be allowed to home school their children without additional state regulation: SS
6. The teaching of "Critical Race Theory" (CRT) should be banned in Montana public schools: SS
7. Comprehensive sex education, beginning as early as kindergarten, should be allowed in public elementary schools: SO* In the 2023 Session I would have supported HB562 the incumbent, my opponent in HD7 voted no on the Charter School bill. Fortunately, despite her efforts to kill this bill it passed and was signed into law. In the 2023 Session I would have supported HB837 the incumbent, my opponent in HD7 voted no on the Curriculum Transparency bill. This bill would have required transparency to parents in their children's school curriculum as well as transparency to all of their school records. Unfortunately, due to the no votes this bill was killed and parents do not have guaranteed transparency to their children's records.
8. Income taxes in Montana are too high: S
9. Property taxes in Montana are too high: SS
10. Corporate taxes in Montana are too high: S
11. The 2nd Amendment to the U.S. Constitution allows all citizens to own firearms for self-protection: SS
12. Climate Change is a problem requiring increased regulation: SO
13. Environmental regulations in Montana are too stringent: SS
14. Environmental regulations in Montana are NOT stringent enough: SO* The green agenda is killing our local economy and raising our taxes. The green agenda is dangerous to Montanans safety as rising energy costs can cause Montanans to choose between heat or food in the winter. This is not acceptable to me! Montana has enough resources to have the lowest energy costs in the country and be an exporter of energy. We need to get Coal strip back up and running. We need to build more natural gas and bio mass power plants. The tax revenue from these plants will help lower the tax burden to the people of Montana. We are the treasure state and have abundant natural resources we need to cut the red tape and get back to doing what makes Montana the greatest state in the nation.
15. Montanans should not be discriminated against or treated differently because of their vaccine status: SS* Vaccine status is be a personal choice and should be confidential between a patient and their doctor. It should not be the school’s business what your child's vaccine status is. It certainly should not be your employer’s business what your vaccine status is. It absolutely should not be the governments business what your vaccine status is.
16. Doctor assisted suicide should be legal in Montana: SO
17. Abortion should be banned in ALL stages of pregnancy: SS
18. Abortion should be banned during all stages of pregnancy, with the exceptions for rape and incest: SS
19. Abortion should be banned only after a heartbeat is detected (around 6 weeks): SS
20. Abortion should be banned only after the first trimester (12 weeks): SS
21. Abortion should be banned only when a fetus becomes viable outside the womb (20 weeks): S
22. Abortion should be banned only after the 2nd trimester (28 weeks): O
23. Abortion should never be banned, not at any stage of pregnancy: SO
24. The Montana Constitution should be amended to allow abortion: SO
25. Infanticide (the killing of infants born alive with physical abnormalities, including infants born as a result of a botched abortion) should be banned in Montana. SS
26. Companies and individuals should be allowed to opt-out of the abortion related mandates contained in Obamacare: SS* The word "ONLY" in the above questions is throwing me off, for clarity here is my position. Life begins at conception. Please note in the case of saving a mother’s life an ectopic pregnancy for example the mother should, and already is protected. These cases are rare and nether the baby or mother would survive such a pregnancy therefore it is considered a miscarriage. So even in with a ban on abortion life of mother will absolutely be protected. Hopefully a bill comes up that will ban abortion completely. However, as much as I would like to see abortion outlawed completely and would support such a bill. I don't think a bill like that will make it through the Montana government solutions caucus. Therefore, I would vote for a bill that strictly limited abortion to cases of incest and rape as well as making sure they were done before a detectable heartbeat. I will not vote for a bill that does not have strict restrictions. Any bill that does not have strict restrictions is pretty much a pro-choice bill in disguise. For example, I would have voted in support of the VETO override of HB968 AN ACT PROVIDING FOR PARENTAL CONSULTATION REGARDING A MINOR'S ABORTION" I am surprised that this did not make your legislative scorecard. HB968 was a rewording of a 2013 bill HB391 which was challenged by planned parenthood and is currently locked up in court. For the record my opponent supported HB968 however when it came time to override the veto she did not vote for the veto override of HB968. I am currently telling as many people as I can to decline to sign CI-128 which would make Montana the first state in the nation to make abortion a constitutional right. This amendment would harm women protect pedophiles, rapists and traffickers as well as kill babies at all stages of pregnancy. This bill would turn Montana a destination state for abortions. Abortion facilities would setup shop in border towns all around our state. "CI-128 prevents the government from penalizing patients, healthcare providers, or anyone who assists someone in exercising their right to make and carry out voluntary decisions about their pregnancy." That means ANYONE who assists in an abortion cannot be penalized meaning anyone can setup these shops and regardless of the outcome and the what damage they may cause to the MOTHER they cannot be penalized! This language is extremely harmful to the health and life of women. The woman could literally die during the procedure and now one could be held accountable or penalized! Even if you do not support or vote for me, PLEASE DECLINE TO SIGN CI-128!
27. Transgender athletes should be allowed to compete against athletes of the opposite sex: SO
28. Doctors should be banned from performing sex-change procedures on minors: SS
29. Homosexuals and transgender people should be allowed to adopt children: SO
30. Non-discrimination laws should be expanded to protect sexual orientation and gender identity in the same way that race, creed, nationality, and religion are protected: SO
31. Montana’s marriage laws should be changed to reflect the legalization of same-sex marriage by the U.S. Supreme Court: SO* The citizens of Montana voted overwhelmingly to change our Montana constitution to read that Marriage is between a Man and a Woman. Shame on the Supreme court to have struck down that decision by We the People! For the record it is still printed in the Montana constitution, as it should be.
